What apps does AccessOwl manage?
AccessOwl connects to 500+ apps and HR systems, including Microsoft 365, Slack, GitHub, Notion and Jira. AccessOwl primarily works through service accounts and browser automation, so SCIM and API setups aren’t required.
Do I need Slack to use AccessOwl?
No. Requests, approvals and admin tasks all run in the AccessOwl web dashboard, with notifications by email. Companies on Slack can also request and approve right in Slack.
Is AccessOwl an alternative to Entra ID Governance?
For SaaS access, yes. Entra ID Governance is an add-on that needs Entra ID P1 or P2, and it works on what Entra ID manages. AccessOwl runs requests, reviews and offboarding across your apps, including apps without SCIM.
How do I automate access management for Microsoft 365 with an MCP or API?

How long does implementation take?
Connecting Microsoft 365 takes a few clicks. A Global Administrator approves one consent screen. Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) stays your identity provider, so there’s nothing to migrate. After that, you add your other apps one by one by inviting the service account.
How does AccessOwl get access to our apps to provision accounts?
AccessOwl works through service accounts and browser automation. Service accounts have user-management rights, so AccessOwl can add and remove people in each app. SCIM and APIs are used when they’re a better fit, like for GitHub. Microsoft 365 itself connects once through a Global Administrator consent.
Is AccessOwl SOC 2 certified?
Yes. AccessOwl has a SOC 2 report, and you can request it from our trust center at security.accessowl.com.
Offboarding
What happens to the Microsoft 365 account when someone leaves?
AccessOwl removes the person’s security groups, Entra admin roles and licenses, then suspends the account, so the paid seat is freed. Distribution groups are the one exception, because of a Microsoft API limit.
Does blocking sign-in in Entra ID remove access to other apps?
Not on its own. It stops new Microsoft sign-ins, but password accounts and open sessions in other apps stay active, and the license stays billed. AccessOwl removes the person inside each app.
Which apps can AccessOwl deprovision?
AccessOwl removes leavers from 500+ connected apps, without SCIM or enterprise plans. Entra ID’s automatic provisioning needs a connector for each app, usually SCIM, and many apps keep SCIM on their enterprise tier.
Onboarding
Which HR systems can trigger onboarding and offboarding?
AccessOwl connects to 50+ HR systems, such as BambooHR and Personio, and reads start dates from Microsoft 365. A start date triggers onboarding, and people are offboarded on their last workday at 8 PM local time by default.
Does AccessOwl assign Microsoft 365 licenses?
Yes. AccessOwl assigns the license when it creates the account, along with security groups and Entra admin roles. Mailbox and calendar sharing keep Microsoft’s defaults, which you set in Exchange.

Can Entra ID groups grant access to our other apps?
Yes, for apps where an Entra ID group grants access, usually SAML apps. Link the existing group, and requests, approvals, reviews and offboarding for that app run through AccessOwl.
How do access reviews work with Microsoft 365?
Why is this better than running access reviews manually?
Manual reviews mean exporting user lists app by app and matching them in spreadsheets. Then you chase approvers, who often approve everything in bulk. Apps outside your SSO get missed, and removals are done by hand. AccessOwl pulls the lists, nudges reviewers, removes revoked access and logs each step.
Why is this better than doing access requests through a ticketing tool like Jira?
A ticket only records that someone asked. IT still chases the approval and creates the account by hand, and the ticket often doesn’t show it was done. In AccessOwl, the request, approval and provisioning run as one flow, and every step is logged.
How is this different from an ITSM tool?
ITSM tools handle every kind of IT ticket. AccessOwl is built for access. It knows who has which app and permission, routes each request to the right approver and provisions it. The same access is removed at offboarding or in a review.

How does Shadow IT discovery work with Microsoft 365?
AccessOwl reads Microsoft OAuth logs to find the apps people signed into with their work account. Admins approve or ignore each new app. Apps that don’t use Microsoft sign-in can be added by hand.
